Franklin Pacific worked as a subcontractor to JW Fowler in 2020 for the construction of the South Decline Ramp which established the service truck entrance for the Climate Pledge Arena project in Seattle Washington. This was a design-build project which meant that Franklin Pacific started work prior to the design and contract drawings being completed. Throughout the project we attended regular meetings with the general contractor and design team as design issues were resolved and final details were developed. The project involved a soldier pile wall shored open cut excavation leading to a pipe canopy shored tunnel below an existing historic building. Once the excavation was completed Franklin Pacific constructed all of the cast in place concrete tunnel base slab and lining, fascia walls, retaining walls and paving. The tunnel is 30 feet wide x 23 feet tall and198 feet long. The tunnel base slab and lining are 30 inches thick. Nearly10,000 square feet of 14” thick concrete fascia was constructed at the open cut excavation. As the tunnel served a critical point of construction access for the arena construction we were under an extremely compressed timeframe to complete the tunnel and open it to construction traffic so that the interior of the area could be completed and the arena opened for the start of the hockey season. Despite COVID 19 and multiple other setbacks Franklin Pacific completed the tunnel with 3 days to spare.
