Franklin Pacific is currently working on the Delta Sky Club project in Concourse A at the Sea Tac Airport as the concrete trade partner to Hansel Phelps. This design build project consists of a 5 story 65,000 square foot building constructed adjacent to active Concourse A gates. Working within an active airport required great levels of coordination and work activity planning to assure we did not interrupt any airport operations. The steel frame and concrete slab on metal deck structure is founded on 5 foot diameter x 60 foot deep drilled shaft foundations. Perimeter strip footing and stem walls enclose the ground floor level. As this building is considered an essential facility the seismic force resisting system is designed to a much greater factor of safety than non essential facilities. This in turn drove the structural steel and concrete design to employ much larger steel framing members and concrete reinforcing densities than would be typical for a building of this size. The connection of the 13 moment frame columns to the concrete foundation employed 24 anchor bolts each and required precise levels of accuracy to assure fit up. To facilitate coordination of the structural steel and concrete foundation work Franklin Pacific developed a BIM model and used Total Station technology for field layout in order to achieve the accuracy required of the concrete construction.
